About the Event

The Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships (CSWWC) is an international wine competition organized by the British wine writer Tom Stevenson. Every year the event brings together experts and wine tasters with the responsibility to judge and appoint prestigious rewards to wines produced anywhere on the planet. The renowned Champagne and sparkling wines specialists Essi Avellan and Doc Tony Jordan were the special jurors for the 2015 edition of the championships. The festival's main aim is to supply consumers and experts in the field with the guidebook of the best Champagne and sparkling wines in the world.

With 113 new producers and a 37.5% increase in the number of countries represented, the CSWWC 2015 has seen 36% more medal-winning wines.

Blanc de Blancs

Blanc de Blancs Brut is one of the most important products of the winery “Tenuta Scarpa Colombi”, located in Pavia in the Lombardia region. It is a white, dry, sparkling wine. This VSQ (Vino Spumante di Qualità – Quality Sparkling Wine) is produced exclusively with Chardonnay grapes, cultivated on hills characterized by a soil mix rich in calcareous and clay sediments, slightly sandy, at an elevation of 200 meters and facing the north-west direction.

The soil, the microclimate, the annual harvesting in baskets, the fast delivery of the grapes to the cellar and the soft grape pressing procedure are only a few factors that contribute to creating its high quality. Careful preparation of the wine and the further 36 month-long second fermentation in bottles complete the production of this unique wine.

Blanc de Blancs’ bouquet is high in uncommon intensity with a bright straw-yellow colour, notes of fragrant unripe white fruits and yellow flowers. The foam is thin and abundant. Extraordinarily exquisite and classy, it stands out for a substantial structure and an enjoyable sour note.
